Some NWC customers still without water, even as Labour Minister says supplies have been restored

Labour Minister Karl Samuda says water supply has been restored as negotiations continue with unions representing National Water Commission workers, who walked off the job today (May 10).

However up to late this afternoon, some customers were still without water.

Some 2000 NWC workers are upset about an outstanding reclassification exercise and they have concerns about the ongoing public sector compensation review.

Its reported that about 500,000 NWC customers are impacted by water supply disruption.

The Labour Ministry called an emergency meeting this afternoon, to try to resolve the issues.

Opposition MP Fitz Jackson raised the issue of the NWC strike in Parliament, this afternoon.


Labour Minister Karl Samuda responded, indicating that his ministry has been facilitating dialogue between the sides.

Mr. Samuda says efforts will be made to ensure NWC facilities are operational, as the discussions continue.
