Some schools and businesses close early, as water lock off impacts several sectors

Several business places and schools across the island closed early today (May 10), due to a lack of water, related to the strike by National Water Commission, N-W-C staff.

President of the Jamaica Teacher’s Association, Winston Smith, told Irie Fm News that many schools were affected.

He said while some may have water in storage, the government should ensure that there is adequate supply, especially as the country battles the Covid-19 pandemic.

He expressed support for the NWC.

Meantime, Toniann, a representative from the Auto Comfort Carwash, in St. Ann, said business was severely affected by the strike.

And scores of farmers were also affected by the strike by NWC workers.

President of the Jamaica Agricultural Society, Lenworth Fulton said poultry farmers were among those affected.

 

And some businesses in Portland were also affected.

One employee at a gas station said she lost sales.
