Residents in Springfield Westmoreland blocked a section of the road this morning (October 24), as they protested over the lack of electricity in the area since last week Thursday.

IRIE FM news understands that a downed tree fell on a powerline which disrupted connections for hundreds of residents.

Speaking with IRIE FM news this morning, a resident said members of the Jamaica Public Service visited the scene, but there is still no electricity.

He said the residents were forced to take action as the lack of power disrupted their daily activities.

He said businesses and households have been suffering.

The protest began at approximately 8 o’clock this morning.
