St. Ann Chamber of Commerce concerned about the increase in murders

The St. Ann Chamber of Commerce has expressed concern over the increase in murders in the parish compared to last year.

 

Head of the St. Ann police Senior Superintendent Dwight Powell reported last week that the parish had recorded 33 murders up to the end of May.

 

This, he noted is 13 more murders than the similar period last year.

 

Speaking to Irie FM News this morning, President of the Chamber Dr. Ransford Davidson said with a justice of the peace murdered in the parish recently the concern has heightened.

 

He said collaboration between commerce, the police and other stakeholders continues.

 

He said while recent states of public emergency have been successful in the parish, there are other measures that must be explored.

 

Dr. Davidson added that the police in the parish need more resources.
