St Ann MC to implement traffic changes in St Anns Bay

by January 5th, 2018

New traffic measures are to be implemented in the St. Ann capital, St. Ann’s Bay, next week, to address traffic congestion and other forms of indiscipline.

Chairman of the St. Ann Municipal Corporation and Mayor of St. Ann’s Bay Michael Belnavis says starting Monday, January 8, any vehicle parked illegally in the town will be clamped, and the owner ordered to pay a fine of 2 thousand 5 hundred dollars before the vehicle can be removed.

He says, if the owner of the clamped vehicle fails to pay the fine, the vehicle will be removed by a wrecker to the car pound, and the owner will then be required to pay the transportation fee, and storage cost.

Making the announcement today (Jan 5) Mayor Belnavis says some streets will be designated for parking at a cost of $100 per hour.

He says the new measures are not designed to make money for the corporation, but primarily to enforce discipline and order in the streets.

In the meantime, Mayor Belnavis says that the corporation has invested in a new enforcement unit that will be used to transport members of the municipal police around the town, while conducting duties.

He adds that a similar plan is being designed for Ocho Rios, to be implemented in March, and also in Browns Town later in the year.

Mayor Belnavis was speaking at a press conference at the offices of the St. Ann Municipal Corporation, this morning.
