St Ann police: no murder recorded in June

by July 2nd, 2018

The St. Ann police are attributing the recording of no murder for all of last month, to strategic initiatives including interventions and community policing.

Although no murder was recorded for June in the parish, there was a jump in shootings, going up by three.

All other categories of major crime had a reduction, with about thirty fewer incidents, compared to the same period, last year.

Head of the division, Superintendent Michael Smith, says the victim risk assessment system also helped in cutting down the murder statistics.

Meantime, the St. Ann police say there has been a marked improvement, in the behaviour of road users, especially taxi operators in major towns.

This is due to several operations along sections of main roadways, police presence in areas that were previously prone to congestion and a traffic safety campaign.

Superintendent Smith says the initiatives facilitated a change of culture.

He says more taxi operators and commuters are using the bus parks.
