The head of the St. Catherine business community says he’s not surprised by the amount of money the police say is being raked in by Klansman gang weekly in extortion fees.

Head of the Counter-Terrorism and Organized Crime Investigation Branch (CTOC) Assistant Commissioner, Fitz Bailey yesterday said the gang based in Spanish Town makes up to $1.8 m weekly and over $85 m per year.

President of the St. Catherine Chamber of Commerce Dennis Robotham says he has heard of higher figures.

The Klansman gang, which police say has been wreaking havoc in St. Catherine, is known for a string of crimes to include, murder, rape, robberies and extortion.

ACP Fitz Bailey of Ctoc, says based on intelligence, the gang has been extorting public passenger vehicle operators, and business owners.

Meantime, Mr. Robotham continues to welcome the presence of the security forces under the state of emergency, noting order in the bus park.
