St James health department conducting assessment following flooding

The St. James Health department says all facilities that were impacted by flooding in Montego Bay yesterday, will be re-opened to the public, come tomorrow (Nov 24).

This as clean-up works by the health department should be completed by later this evening.

Yesterday’s flooding, resulting from heavy rains led to patients being rerouted to other health facilities today.

Chief Public Health Inspector for St. James Lennox Wallace, says the clinic, and  administrative building  at  the department’s creek street offices, were flooded and some documents destroyed in yesterday’s ordeal.

He notes, that with the assistance of fire fighters, clean up exercise will be completed tonight, allowing the health department to return to normality in the morning.

In the meantime, all business establishments that were affected by yesterday’s flooding are to remain closed tomorrow to facilitate assessment and inspection from the St. James health department.

The St. James municipal corporation in collaboration with the St. James public health department says it will be working to carry out the inspection tomorrow.

The chief public health inspector says, assessments have commenced but the bulk of the work will be conducted tomorrow.

The public is being advised not to consume any products that have been discarded by food enterprises.
