St Thomas residents marooned following landslides

by May 16th, 2017

Over in St. Thomas, several landslides have left many residents cut off.

Parish Disaster Coordinator for St. Thomas Martina Medley told Irie FM News that among the areas affected are White Hall, Golden Field, Bath, Spring Bank, and Johnson Mountain.

She says the Plantain Garden river has overflowed its banks, and a farmer who was trapped at an agro park has since been rescued.

She says 2 shelters have been opened but are not yet occupied.

It’s reported that residents in bath are fearful of their homes being flooded due to the overflowing Plantain Garden river.

The residents have also expressed concern that blocked drains in the community are causing rising water levels to threaten their home.

Meantime, a resident of Hagley Gap,  Rohan Cuff told Irie FM News that citizens have taken it unto themselves to clear a roadway blocked by landslide.

And, several businesses in the parish have been left short staffed as many workers were unable to venture out.

Road infrastructure across the parish of St. Thomas is impacted with water forming channels along the road. Those areas include Tophill in Lyssons, Pipe Road, Barking Lodge, Dalvey and Retreat.

The Ttrinityville main road is impacted by land slippages and the Poor Man’s Corner roadway is flooded.
