by February 29th, 2016

A St Thomas man found guilty of breaches of the fraudulent transaction special provisions act was sentenced to three years hard labour in the St Catherine Circuit Court last Friday.

He is twenty-year-old labourer, Orlando Thomas of Yallahs in the parish.

Reports are that in May last year Thomas was seen acting in a suspicious manner in Spanish Town.

He was accosted by police and taken in for questioning at the Spanish Town police station, where he was searched.

A plastic bag with two lead sheets bearing the social security numbers, names and addresses of persons overseas was reportedly found in his possession.

Further investigations resulted in Thomas being charged for involvement in lottery scamming.

Presiding Judge, Justice Sarah Thompson-James told Thomas that his action of trying to fraudulently take money from unsuspecting persons is not taken lightly; therefore a custodial sentence was in order.
