by January 15th, 2019

The Opposition People’s National Party (PNP) has expressed disappointment that the meeting with stakeholder groups, to discuss crime fighting measures has been postponed.

The meeting was set for tomorrow (Jan 16).

The Opposition says it considers these discussions with the private sector, civil society, human rights groups, churches and the bar association,  critical , in achieving consensus on national security and crime management.

In a statement today, Opposition Leader, Dr. Peter Phillips says although government representatives had agreed to the meeting for tomorrow, he received communication from the Office of the Prime Minister, indicating that there are challenges relating to attendance of some stakeholders and his own schedule.

Dr. Phillips notes that while he is disappointed the meeting will not be held as planned, the Opposition remains optimistic and ready to participate in this critical discussion to fulfill a commitment given to Jamaicans.

He is calling on the government to propose a new date quickly.
