Stakeholder wants more funding for Jamaica Eye

by December 1st, 2022

A call is being made for more funding to be provided to maintain government-owned cameras, which are a part of the Jamaica Eye network.

Jamaica Eye is the country’s closed-circuit television (CCTV) surveillance system, which helps the police fight crime and maintain public order.

Chair of the Private Sector Organization of Jamaica (PSOJ) Standing Committee on National Security and Justice, Commander George Overton, said the funds allocated for maintaining the cameras are insufficient.

He noted that special care is needed for cameras installed in areas where they are prone to rapid deterioration.

He was speaking at a Public Order and Safety press briefing, hosted by the PSOJ yesterday.
