STATIN reports record low in unemployment rate

The Statistical Institute of Jamaica (Statin) is reporting that the unemployment rate has declined to a record low of 7.2 per cent as at October 2019.

 

This was announced by Director General of Statin, Carol Coy, at the agency’s quarterly press briefing, this morning.

 

The 7.2 figure, is point 6 percentage points less, than that which was recorded in July of last year.

 

The Statin Director General notes that the number of unemployed people in Jamaica falls well below 100,000.

 

 

Miss coy says, increases in employment were observed across both genders.

 

 

 

She notes that females accounted for the largest proportion of those employed in industries that recorded growth.
