by March 23rd, 2018

The Sunshine Girls are still unblemished in their preparations for the upcoming Commonwealth Games on the Gold Coast in Australia.

It comes after they pulled away for a 66-55 win over Malawi at the Taini Jamison quad series in Auckland despite using an experimental line-up.

Jamaica rested attackers Jhaniele Fowler-Reid (until the fourth quarter) and Shanice Beckford for this game and didn’t bring on wing attack Khadijah Williams until the third quarter.

The game was as a result close for the first three quarters, with the Sunshine Girls leading 47-42, before a 10-minute cameo by Fowler-Reid saw the score-line expanding.

Queensland Firebirds ace Romelda Aiken, in the meantime, led the way with a team high 29 goals from 35 attempts while Rebekah Robinson went 22 of 29 to provide support. Fowler-Reid was 12 of 14 in her short stint.

The Jamaicans with the result confirmed their place at the top of the standings and now move on to the final where they will face New Zealand who beat Fiji 88-27 to finish second on the table.

The final will be a repeat of Wednesday’s match that saw the Sunshine Girls notching a 59-51 win over the Silver Ferns.

It will be preceded by the third place decider between Fiji and Malawi.
