Superb Day two for Jamaican High Schools at Penn Relays

The Jamaican High Schools were in scintillating form today in the Championship of Americas relays on Friday’s second day of the 2018 Penn Relays at Franklin Field in Pennsylvania.

In the High School Championship of America for Girls event, Edwin Allen High School star sprinter 16-year-old Kevona Davis who was recovering from a sore hamstring sustained at the ISSA/Girls Champs’ in Kingston, ran on the second leg and had the speedy Kashieka Cameron on anchor , the combination by coach Michal Dyke was superb as they stormed to victory in 44.79seconds.

Holmwood Technical’s team of Kelliesha King, Kadeja Campbell, Michae Harriott, Shanette Allison put up a good challenge but were unable to match Edwin Allen’s pace but their 45.05s showed they were no slouches. Hydel High School ensured a sweep of the medals for the Jamaican teams, taking the bronze in 45.38s.

In the Championship of America 4x800m relay, Holmwood Technical proved to be unstoppable as they defended their title for an 11th straight year.

Meanwhile the quartet of Delverna Bromfield, Brittney Campbell, Sasha Brown and Chrisanni May were just too strong for the rest of the pack taking the title in 8 minutes 48.33, almost 10 seconds ahead of Neumann-Goretti who claimed the silver medal in 8 minutes 57.09.

From St Catherine the Maurice Wilson conditio0ned G.C. Foster College with long jump champion Tissanna Hickling and World University Games 100metres champion Sashalee Forbes won the silver in the Collegiate Women’s 4×100 meters in 44.56s. Albany was third in 44.83s.

Hydel High School defended their Hih School Girls Mile relay title coming home as the winners in 3 minutes 36.38. Holmwood Technical took the silver in 3 minutes 38.14 seconds.
