Swansea City complete shock signing of Renato Sanches from Bayern Munich

by August 31st, 2017

Swansea City have confirmed the shock signing of Portugal international Renato Sanches on a season-long loan from German champions Bayern Munich.

Named the Best Young Player at Euro 2016, Sanches has struggled to make his mark since arriving in Munich from Benfica for a fee of £30 million.

The 20 year old made 26 appearances in all competitions for Bayern last season as they lifted the Bundesliga shield, but made just six starts in the German top flight.

His move to the Welsh club comes with the expectation that he will see regular first-team action at the Liberty Stadium.

There is no option to buy when the deal comes to an end next summer.

“We’re delighted we’ve been able to conclude the loan deal with Swansea City,” Bayern’s chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge said on the club’s website on Thursday.

”Our goal was for Renato to gain regular match practice at club level in a strong league such as the Premier League.

“We remain convinced he has the potential to become an important player for FC Bayern in the future.”

Sanches further bolsters Swansea’s midfield options after Sam Clucas joined from Hull City.

He could make his English Premier League debut when Swansea host Newcastle United on September 10.
