Talks continue to end strike by Water Commission workers

Up to news time, the Labour Ministry, the National Water Commission and the unions representing its workers had not arrived at a consensus, following today’s (May 10) strike.

An emergency meeting was called with the groups, this afternoon.

Speaking with Irie Fm News, General Secretary of the National Workers Union, Granville Valentine said the meeting is still underway.

He said while there has been some progress, more needs to be done to resolve the issue.

And Union Delegate at the St. Ann’s Bay NWC office, Claudette Samson Lewis, detailed the reason for the strike.

Over in Manchester, some NWC workers at the company’s Mandeville offices played dominoes as they stayed off the job.

One worker, Curtis said he and his colleagues have been working hard and their voices should be heard.

Meanwhile, there were mixed views from citizens in Mandeville on the strike.
