Taxi operators protest poor condition of Old Harbour taxi park

by May 9th, 2022

Some commuters were left stranded in Old Harbour, St Catherine this morning as taxi operators protest the lack of adequate space in the Old Harbour taxi park.

The protest follows a meeting two weeks ago, involving the taxi operators, the police and the municipality about the traffic congestion created when taxi operators park along the roadways.

When the meeting concluded, the taxi operators were given until 7 am on Monday, May 09 to ensure that they utilize the park.

However, one taxi operator told Irie Fm news that there is unrest among the taxi operators, because they believe the area is not conducive for daily operations.

He called on the authorities to assess the facility.

And Deputy Superintendent of Police Mark Harris noted that the municipal corporation is looking into creating more space for the park.

However, he called on the taxi operators to comply, while the matter is being assessed.
