Captain Stafanie Faylor produced a good all-round performance today to guide the West Indies Women to a seven wicket victory over Thailand in their opening game at the ICC Women‘s T20 World Cup at the WACA Ground in Perth.
Taylor dominated, claiming 3 for 13 from her 3 overs, with the ball as the Windies restricted the minnows to 78 for 9.
There was also a wicket each for Chinelle Henry, Shamilia Connell, Afy Fletcher, Anisa Mohammed and Hayley Mathews.
Taylor then led the run chase stroking three boundaries in her top-score of 26 not out from 37 balls to steer the Windies Women to victory at 80 for 3 with 20 balls to spare.
The 28 year-old, later named Player of The Match, also shared in an unbroken 4th wicket partnership of 53 with Shemaine Campbell who was not out on 25.
Thai side meanwhile gave a creditable performance, bowling and fielding with tremendous skill, determination and no little flare to have the West Indies in early trouble in their chase. But for a DRS reprieve for Shemaine Campbelle, West Indies may have been 4 for 27 chasing 79 to win.
Final scores: Thailand 78 for 9, West Indies 80 for 3.
The Windies will be back in action against Pakistan in Canberra on Tuesday.
