Teachers told to listen for ringing of school bell

by November 25th, 2017

President Elect of the Jamaica Teachers Association Dr. Garth Anderson has called on the association’s membership, to support the president whenever the time comes to press government further for a better wage offer.

The islands teachers have already rejected government 6 percent wage offer, and are calling on Finance Minister Audley Shaw to arrange a date to resume negotiations.

Speaking at a JTA meeting in St. Ann yesterday, Dr. Anderson pointed to the militant stance taken by the nurses, in their bid for improved wages.

He told the teachers that they must be ready to act when JTA President Georgia Waugh Richards rings the school bell.

Dr. Anderson says teachers are just asking to be paid a reasonable wage.

The JTA Executive is expected to make a decision today as to the next steps to be taken.
