by August 19th, 2021

Agriculture and Fisheries Minister Floyd Green says only about ten per cent of farmers in the eastern end of the island were impacted by the passage of tropical storm grace.

Speaking with Irie FM News, he noted that teams from the Rural Agricultural Development Authority, RADA, the Agro-Investment corporation, the Banana Board and the National Fisheries Authority have been dispatched to undertake an assessment of the damage.

Mr. Green said the majority of the reports of damage thus far have been coming from St. Mary, St. Thomas and Portland.

He said based on what is being reported, most of the agro-parks in the affected parishes were spared significant damage, outside of St. Thomas which saw about 10 per cent of its farmers being impacted.

He noted that preliminary assessment from the national fisheries authority indicates that very little damage was suffered by fisherfolk in the eastern end.
