Alleged gang leader Tesha Miller, remains in police custody, despite pleading guilty and paying a fine.

His attorney, Bert Samuels, has expressed surprise at the actions of the police, following today’s (Apl 18) court appearance.

In court earlier today, Miller pleaded guilty to making a false declaration to Jamaican immigration officials, and was fined $100.

The sentence was handed down by Parish Judge Sancia Burrell in the Kingston and St. Andrew Parish Court.

It immediately triggered discussions among persons inside the courtroom, some of whom openly expressed disbelief.

The judge reportedly told the court audience to take-up the matter of the small fine with the country’s political and legislative directorate, as the issue cannot be discussed in the courtroom.

Miller was facing two counts of making a false declaration. He pleaded not guilty on the first count and was freed after prosecutors offered no evidence against him.

On the second charge for which Miller pleaded guilty, prosecutors alleged that on April 4, the reputed gang leader made a false declaration at the Norman Manley International Airport, that his name was ‘Marlon Williams’.

Miller’s lawyer Bert Samuels says immediately after paying the $100 fine, Miller was again detained.

He says the police told the court that investigators have anti-gang charges pending against his client.

Mr. Samuels says, he will be returning to court tomorrow.
