The Southern Cross Boulevard in Montego Bay St James has been renamed the Tony Hart Boulevard.

This, in honour of Anthony Hart, a businessman credited with being the driving force behind the development of the Montego Bay Freeport in the 1960s.

The Freeport is now considered the business hub of the parish.

Mr Hart’s vision also included development plans for the Bogue lands, the Pye River Bridge, and the dredging of the Montego Freeport harbour, allowing bigger cruise and cargo ships to dock.

Speaking at the renaming ceremony this morning (August 20), Member of Parliament for North West St James, Dr. Horace Chang said Mr. Hart was a committed Jamaican, who played a significant role in several aspects of Jamaica’s development, including politics.
