Three of the island’s hospitals almost at full capacity with covid patients

by January 4th, 2021

Chief Medical Officer Dr. Jacquiline Bisasor-Mckenzie has disclosed that three of the island’s public hospitals are almost at capacity as it relates to covid-19 patients.

Dr. Bisasor-McKenzie made the disclosure while speaking at a press briefing at the weekend.

She noted that the Falmouth, Linstead, and Spanish town hospitals are in the red zone for covid capacity, having exceeded the 84% threshold.

She added that 53% of the covid beds across the island are however available, as the moderately, severely, and critically ill patients’ cases are concentrated in the western end of the island.

Meantime, Health Minister Dr. Christopher Tufton noted that if hospitals in the west become overwhelmed, then the ministry will have to begin moving patients around.

He emphasized the importance of the hospitals being able to cope with the number of patients who need to be hospitalized.
