Tivoli compensation period closed

The government has declared the matter of compensation for victims of the May 2010 security forces operation in West Kingston, closed.

Justice Minister Delroy Chuck, made the announcement in parliament this afternoon (Jan 23).

This in light of the Tivoli Committee, stating that some 2,000 persons were not compensated by the government and have been refused audience with the Justice Minister.

Close to $200 m has been allocated for the compensation, with $120 m already paid out.

The Justice Minister says the deadline for submission was widely advertised.

Mr. Chuck says, all monies should be paid-out, by the end of March.

The Justice Minister says the ministry will abide strictly to the recommendations of the committee.
