by March 17th, 2020

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Los Angeles Chargers have emerged as favorites to acquire the services of six-time Super Bowl champion quarterback Tom Brady in the American sports betting market.

It comes after Brady made the shock announcement that his time with the New England Patriots had ended and his “football journey will take place elsewhere.”

In a statement posted on social media, Brady added: “I wanted to say thank you to all of the incredible fans and Patriots supporters.

“MA [Massachusetts] has been my home for 20 years, it has truly been the happiest two decades I could’ve envisioned in my life and I have nothing but love and gratitude for my time in New England.

“The support has been overwhelming, I wish every player could experience it.”

Prior to Brady’s announcement, most sportsbooks had New England with the best odds to keep the three-time MVP and four Super Bowl MVP.

With the Patriots ruled out, the Buccaneers and Chargers have seen their odds improve significantly with Tampa Bay was a -200 favorite at FanDuel, followed by the Chargers at +160.

Brady, meanwhile, officially hits the league’s open market on Wednesday but could reach agreement with another team on Tuesday, when players and clubs can negotiate deals.

The 42 year-old was drafted by the Patriots in 2000 and helped them win the Super Bowl in 2001, 2003, 2004, 2014, 2016 and in 2018.

He has also been on the losing team in the Super Bowl on three occasions.

With Brady, the Patriots were -200 favorites to win the AFC East. Without him, sportsbook PointsBet reopened New England as co-favorites with the Bills in the division.
