Incarcerated entertainer Tommy Lee Sparta is in the hospital after he was badly injured in a physical altercation at the Tower Street Adult Correctional Centre in downtown Kingston.

According to a press release from the Department of Correctional Services (DCS), reports received from the Acting Superintendent on duty, are that the inmate refused to re-enter his cell following the distribution of breakfast. Upon repeat of the command, it is alleged that the inmate hurled his breakfast at the Staff Officer in retaliation.

Further reports are that the inmate was subdued by the officer and both parties received injuries.

Music News understands that before Tommy Lee Sparta was transferred to the Kingston Public Hospital early Monday, he was first taken to the Medical Orderly on the compound of the institution for examination.

According to the Department of Correctional Services (DCS), an investigation has been launched into the incident.

Meanwhile, on Instagram, Tommy Lee Sparta’s management team posted a picture of the dancehall entertainer to his official account with the caption, “This is to inform all supporters, family, and fans that we are aware of the situation with our dear family member and client, Leroy Junior Russell AKA Tommy Lee Sparta. We are monitoring everything very closely. We truly appreciate all your prayers and positive vibrational energy for his speedy recovery.”

In March last year, Tommy Lee Sparta was sentenced to three years in prison for illegal possession of a firearm and two years for illegal possession of ammunition.

He pleaded guilty to both offences.
