The St. James Health Department and the National Solid Waste Management Authority have had to dump tons of contaminated food at the retirement dump.

The food was affected by the recent floods in sections of Montego Bay.

The health department had issued an advisor yesterday, that establishments should remain close today, to facilitate inspections.

The public was also advised not to consume any products that have been discarded by food enterprises.

Chief Public Health Inspector for St. James Lennox Wallace says about 18 establishments were inspected today.

Mr. Wallace says the inspections will continue into the weekend, at other facilities to include the Charles Gordon market.

He says upon completion of the inspections, the health department will issue certificates to the various establishments.
