Tony Rebel has called on the entertainers and celebrities living in Trelawny to join the ongoing fight for the preservation of the Jamaica Cockpit Country.

On Friday, entertainers Tony Rebel and Queen Ifrica were among protesters who joined IRIE FM in Stewart Town, Trelawny.

Tony Rebel during his speech has called on Super Cat, Anthony B, Charly Black, Romain Virgo, Busy Signal, sprint legend Usain Bolt and Veronica Campbell to support the cause.

Meanwhile, the presence of Westwood High, Albert Town High, William Knibb, St. Hildas, Mount Pleasant Academy, Cedric Titus, and Stewart Town Primary and Basic Schools show that the young people are fully on board.

In commemoration of Global Climate Strike Day which is celebrated today, September 20, IRIE FM continued the conversation regarding the importance of preserving Jamaica Cockpit Country with a live outside broadcast to help raise awareness.

The issue of mining in the Cockpit Country has been a sore point for many stakeholders including environmentalists and community members, who have objected to the area being opened up to Bauxite Mining, despite assurances from the government that no mining will take place.
