Toots Hibbert in medically-induced coma

The family of Toots Hibbert, from the legendary reggae band, Toots and Maytals is asking the public for prayers as the singer remains hospitalized.

Music News understands that Toots is reportedly in a medically-induced coma at the University Hospital of the West Indies. A representative of his team tells Music News that Toots is getting the best medical treatment possible, and his progress is being carefully monitored.

Minister of Culture, Entertainment, Gender and Sport, Olivia Grange is reportedly instrumental in the whole process ensuring that Toots is properly cared for. Meanwhile, the family is asking for privacy.

Singer Maxi Priest used social media to send prayers and well wishes for Toots Hibbert. On Instagram, he wrote, “Prayers and well wishes to my bredrin. Stay strong king. Blessings all around.”

While British label, Trojan Records wished Toots a “speedy recovery.”

Toots Hibbert recently participated in the annual Festival Song competition which he has won three times. On August 28, he released his latest album, ‘Got to Be Tough.’ The entertainer is awaiting COVID-19 test results.

Currently, Jamaica recorded three new COVID-19 deaths over the last 24 hours, as well as 224 new COVID-19 cases, bring the total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases to 2,683.
