by March 10th, 2022

The recovery of the tourism industry is expected to be negatively impacted by the ongoing crisis involving Russia and Ukraine.

The prediction was made by lecturer at the Sir Arthur Lewis Institute of Social and Economic Studies at the University of the West Indies, UWI, Professor Richard Bernard.

Speaking at a UWI Forum this morning (March 10), on the expected impacts of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, Professor Bernard said its expected that increases in air fare and shipping costs, will affect the region’s tourism industry.

Professor Bernard said there will also be an increase in global inequities which will see developing countries like Jamaica suffering the most.

He called for the implementation of mitigating measures.
