TPDCO cites difficulty in finding skilled labour

Executive director of the Tourism Product Development Company, (TPDCO), Wade Mars, said the company has been having challenges, with finding employees who have the requisite experience and skill sets, for some positions.

This against public concern, after the auditor general revealed, that the company did not adhere to governments recruitment policy, when it engaged staff, who did not have the minimum qualification requirements.

Speaking at Tuesday’s meeting of the Public Accounts Committee, Mr. Mars said the employees have been performing satisfactorily, despite lacking the requisite qualification.

He explained that the staff members are appraised regularly.

Mr. Mars explained that many of the employees have proven themselves, in their particular roles, while pointing to issues with recruiting qualified staff.

Meantime, the agency’s executive human resource manager, Erica Brown Whittingham, noted, that there are at least two vacant posts at the entity, due to prospective employees lacking the required qualifications.
