Transport Authority reopens some routes

by June 9th, 2017

The Transport Authority says it will reopen 416 spaces and 117 taxi routes island-wide, effective next Monday, June 12.

This will be done, in order to satisfy the increased demand for public transportation services in rural Jamaica.

The routes will remain open, until July 31.

Corporate Communication Manager at the Transport Authority, Petra-Kene Williams, says the need for the routes became evident, in a recent survey conducted by the authority’s research team.

Ms. Williams says, some of the reopened routes, include Thompson Town to May Pen, Ensom City to Spanish Town, Bath to Morant Bay, and Santa Cruz to Black River.

The complete list of reopened routes will be published in the newspapers on Sunday, June 11.

The Transport Authority is urging persons operating public transportation services without the requisite road licences, to legalize their services now, and avoid prosecution.
