Trelawny residents marooned due to flooding

by January 4th, 2018

Pastor of Fletcher’s Baptist Church in Duncans, Trelawny, Rev. Dr. Vincent Fletcher and his family were among several residents who were marooned in their houses.

He says he has never witnessed this level of flooding.

Dr. Fletcher says the flood waters left close to 30 other householders marooned.

And over in the community of Crawl near Duncan’s, the main road was left partially submerged following hours of heavy rainfall.

Everald McFarlane says residents there were rescued through community effort.

Meantime, Mayor of Falmouth Colin Gager says roadways which were impacted by flooding this morning (Jan 4) have been cleared.

Heavy rains between last night and this morning resulted in flooding on the main road leading from Duncans to Clarkes Town in the vicinity of the Long Pond sugar factory, in the parish.

There were also reports of flooding in the communities of Martha Brae, Rio Bueno and Duncans.

Mayor Gager says he is to get a report from teams from the corporation and the labour ministry, who are still canvassing the affected areas.
