Tributes continue to flood social media platforms following the death of Daddy U-Roy, a pioneering godfather of Jamaican music.

The Minister of Culture, Gender, Entertainment, and Sport, Olivia Grange in a statement said she’s deeply saddened at the news that veteran the entertainer has made his transition to a higher order.

The statement reads in part, “Daddy U Roy earned his crown as ‘King of the Dancehall’ for the role he played in pioneering the art of ‘toasting’ on sound system rhythms.

His Stur Gav sound system launched the careers of many of Reggae’s stars including Charlie Chaplin, Josey Wales, and Super Cat.”

The statement further reads, “Who can forget his ‘Wake The Town and Tell the People’ and ‘Wear You To The Ball’? — just two of the songs that will remain forever in the rich legacy of Jamaica’s Reggae music culture. Let us pause to reflect on the life and musical achievements of this great Jamaican artiste.”

International media outlets such as The Rolling Stones, Pitch Fork, and the BBC, among entertainers, music lovers around the world, and social media users paid tribute to Daddy U Roy who died on Wednesday night after ailing for some time.

On Instagram, Ziggy Marley, Sean Paul, Shaggy, Cham, Bushman, and Bobby Konders are among the countless industry players using the platform to pay homage to Daddy U-Roy.

The veteran toaster was 78.
