Tributes pour in for Irvin “Carrot” Jarrett

The entertainment industry is in mourning following the shocking death of former Third World percussionist, Irvin ‘Carrot’ Jarrett.

The cause of his death is not yet known, however, Music News understands that Carrot was found unresponsive at his home this morning (July 31). He reportedly died at hospital.

Meanwhile Third World Band leader Cat Coore is shocked at his passing. “It’s a great loss to the Third World family” says Cat Coore who confirmed the sad news with Music News.

Carrot Jarrett was part of the classic line-up of the Third World Reggae Band and played on some of the band’s hit songs including 96° in the Shade, Always Around, and Now That We Found Love.

Carrot Jarrett who left the Third World Reggae Band in the 1980s, was touching lives as a holistic health provider since the 1990s.

Though he left the band, entertainment was very much still a part of him. In the early 90s, Carrot Jarrett became a consultant to IRIE FM’s entertainment shows. He helped to guide programmes such as Music News, Entertainment Buzz, Musically Speaking, and the Africa Forum through direct consultation. IRIE FM’s Veteran Radio Broadcaster Big A shares how Carrot Jarrett influenced him as a youth.

Though not on the big screen, Carrot made his acting debut on local television. Lenny Little White, producer of Royal Palm Estate remembers Carrot’s role on the popular the television series.

As a holistic health provider, Carrot’s focus was reiki, a technique commonly called palm healing or hands on healing as a form of therapy.

Meanwhile, The Honourable Olivia Grange, Minister of Culture, Gender, Entertainment and Sport, said Jarrett’s wife, Alicia, wanted everyone to know he “was at peace”.

Minister Grange said that Jarett, who was regarded as one of the world’s foremost percussionists and performers, and who had charted courses in Integrative Health Healing and Wellness for the past two decades, would leave a void difficult to fill.

Irvin Carrot Jarrett was 69 years old. He fathered five children and was married to his soulmate Alicia Jarrett.

He died at the Andrews Memorial Hospital on Tuesday morning.
