Trinidad and Tobago has been officially awarded the gold medal from the 2008 Beijing Olympics in the men’s 4 x 100metres relay by the International Olympic Committee.

The confirmation came from president of the Trinidad and Tobago Olympic Committee (TTOC) Brian Lewis.

T&T first fell in line to receive the medal when Jamaican sprinter Nesta Carter’s re-tested samples from the games tested positive for a banned substance in 2016, eight years after the Jamaicans including Usain Bolt won gold in the event in a world record time.

T&T originally placed second.

The T&T athletes who include Richard Thompson, Emmanuel Calendar, Keston Bledman and Aaron Armstrong, Marc Burns can choose how their medals will be reallocated, with the option to receive them at an official ceremony at the next Olympic Games in Tokyo 2020.
