Troja Primary School workers on strike

by September 3rd, 2018

The Bustamante Industrial Trade Union (BITU) has written to the Labour Ministry seeking its intervention in a dispute involving staff and administration at the Troja Primary school in St. Catherine.

The start of the new school year was marred by 16 ancillary workers taking industrial action today (Sep 3).

The workers are upset that the cook has not been appointed to the position, despite industrial action taken earlier this year, and an agreement signed in May, for the worker to be confirmed.

It’s not clear if the students got meals today or if they will get in the days to come, because the workers have threatened to continue the action.

Island Supervisor at the BITU George Nicholas, says the workers are adamant that they will not resume duties until the cook receives the letter of appointment.
