Two Jamaicans who were facing deportation from the United Kingdom had their names removed from a mass deportation list, today.

The men were among some 50 people set to be deported tomorrow in what will be the second immigration removal charter flight to Jamaica.

Those facing deportation are part of the Windrush generation (British Caribbean citizens who migrated to UK from the commonwealth following the Second World War, and whose rights were guaranteed in the Immigration Act of 1971.

Immigration solicitor, Rachel Okello, who represented the men, told Irie FM News that while they had criminal convictions they also had the protection of the human rights law.

She says the men are happy to have gotten more time to spend with their families in the UK.

She explained however, that a deportation could still take place for those persons at a later date.

Meanwhile, as the United Kingdom government expressed determination to go ahead with the charter flight, despite widespread demands for it to be called off, Ms. Okello, says it is unlikely that other persons facing deportation will enjoy a similar victory as her clients.

She says given the short time frame, it is unlikely that the entire flight will be cancelled.

She is urging persons in Jamaica to not discriminate against those who are deported.
