UIC to go ahead with march on Gordon House, despite warning from police

by September 22nd, 2021

Despite the warning from the police that today’s (September 22) planned march on Gordon House by the United Independent Congress UIC is illegal, the group remains defiant in its stance and is going ahead with its protest against the government’s Covid response.

The march is scheduled to start at 9 a-m at the Ward Theatre.

In a social media post last evening (September 21), the UIC urged the Jamaica Constabulary Force to stand down and to instead keep the peace, as well as join in the group’s efforts.

The UIC called on the police to not allow the government to use them as a tool of oppression and that the cops should not underestimate the group’s willingness, to go to jail for its rights.

The group wants the police force to show the government, that its role includes defending the fundamental human rights and freedoms of the Jamaican people.

UIC President Joseph Patterson urged the police, to not infringe upon their right to freedom of movement and peaceful assembly.

Mr. Patterson is calling for good sense to prevail.

The UIC also called on citizens to read its 5-point Covid pandemic response plan on its website.
