The use of unapproved entities in the Canadian visa application process is among a raft of red flags identified as reasons Jamaica was not included in a recent ‘Visa-free’ travel list.
Foreign affairs minister Kamina Johnson-Smith made the revelation while speaking during the Let‘s connect with ambassador Audrey Marks virtual forum on Thursday evening.
Some Jamaicans are reportedly upset about the country being left off what they deem the visa free travel list.
Johnson-Smith clarified that the Canadian programme, is not visa free, rather, an adjustment in requirements.
She further explained that due to the actions of some persons, Jamaica did not meet Canada’s requirements to be included, on the list.
The minister is urging Jamaicans applying for Canadian visas, to check the Canadian commission‘s web site for information about approved entities.
She said other red flags identified include, crime and deportation.
She assured that the ministry is continuing efforts to have Jamaica included on the next travel list.
