Unemployment declines to 7.1%

The Statistical Institute of Jamaica (STATIN) is reporting that Jamaica’s unemployment rate declined to 7.1%, as of October 2021.

 

Director-General of STATIN Carol Coy notes that the October 2021 labour force survey, shows that this is a decline of 3.7%, relative to October 2020.

 

The unemployment rate for females, however, remains some 3.5% higher than that of males.

 

 

Meantime, Miss Coy notes that females recorded the larger increase in employment, with a growth of 8.5% employment.

 

She says there were increases in the number of people employed across all age groups.

 

 

Most industries saw increases in their employed labour force.

 

 

Miss Coy was speaking at a media briefing this morning.
