by May 25th, 2018

The union representing Windalco workers has sought the assistance of the United States authorities in Jamaica, in resolving the company’s cash flow challenges, impacting workers.

Windalco’s parent company, Russian Aluminium producer U C Rusal, has been experiencing financial troubles, since the imposition of sanctions by the United States.

This has led to the partial payment of Windalco workers this month, as the company is strapped for cash.

President of the Union of Clerical, Administrative and Supervisory Employees, Vincent Morrison, says Windalco will complete the payments by month end.

However, he says, the company has stated, that come next month, they may not be able to pay workers.

Mr. Morrison says Windalco has asked the union to lobby the US government on its behalf.
