by May 9th, 2022

The Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM) has launched a probe into the intervention of the police, in an alleged mob killing of a man in Manchester on Friday (May 6).

Dead is Chieften Campbell of Victoria Town in the parish.

Mr. Campbell was reportedly beaten by angry citizens in Mandeville after they accused him of stealing.

Reports are that the police intervened in the matter but allegedly hesitated in taking the injured man to the hospital for medical attention.

On Saturday, residents of Victoria Town blocked a section of the main road in the area in protest over the killing.

They also called on INDECOM to investigate the role of the police in Mr. Campbell’s death.

Speaking with IRIE F-M news, Commissioner of INDECOM, Hugh Faulkner said INDECOM has answered the call.

Meantime, Mr. Faulkner is urging persons not to take matters into their own hands.
