The ward who was shot during an attempt to escape from a juvenile remand centre on February 10, has died.

He has been identified as Henrique Hemmings.

The Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM) who made the disclosure, says its probe into the incident has now been updated to a fatal shooting enquiry.

On February 10, INDECOM commenced an investigation, following reports that two male juvenile wards in custody at the Metcalfe Street Secure Juvenile Remand Centre were attempting to escape.

One was caught, while it is reported that the other was shot by Sentry Officers of the Department of Correctional Services, as he attempted to scale a wall.

No weapon was reported as recovered from the scene.

INDECOM says three correctional officers have been identified as discharging their weapons during the incident.

The juvenile had been at the Kingston Public Hospital receiving treatment for multiple organ injuries.
