by May 19th, 2017

Some irate residents of corn piece in Clarendon staged a demonstration outside the gates of the Jamalco plant, today (May 19).

The residents were demanding the payment promised to them, as compensation for the dust nuisance they suffered, last month.

The residents claim that the compensation payment was due for distribution today.

Community representative, Dian Murray, told Irie FM News ,that they became upset when the bauxite company did not give out any funds.

She says the residents are not in agreement with a decision by Jamalco to conduct a re-verification exercise.

Meantime, Corporate Services Manager at Jamalco Donna Marie Gordon says there was no agreement to pay out compensation funds, today.

Mrs. Gordon says following the first assessment, the company discovered some discrepancies and as such, decided to do a second verification.

She says the re-verification must be done before any compensation money is paid out.

She says due to the protest today, Jamalco asked the residents to attend a meeting at 3:00 p.m. to discuss the issue, but they refused.
