Usain Bolt to face Omar McLeod in Monaco

by July 18th, 2017

Double sprint world record holder Usain Bolt and Olympic 110m hurdles champion Omar McLeod are set to clash in a spectacular 100m showdown at the Monaco Diamond League meeting on Friday, according to the provisional starting list which was published on Tuesday.

The event marks Bolt’s first appearance over the distance since visiting German doctor Hans-Wilhelm Müller-Wohlfahrt in June with a stiff back after labouring to a rusty 10.06sec win at the Golden Spike meeting in Ostrava.

It was the first time Bolt had recorded back-to-back times over 10 seconds in the same season since turning professional.

Bolt at the time insisted he would be ready for the world championships, which begin on August 5, saying: “I never worry. I always tell you guys if my coach is not worried, I am not worried. I just need to go to my doctor and get everything checked out to make sure everything is smooth and continue training so when my next race in Monaco comes, I’ll see where I am at.”

World champion Danielle Williams meanwhile is listed for the women’s 100m hurdles where she will face world record holder Kendra Harrison, Jasmin Stowers, Nia Ali, Sharika Nelvis and Sally Pearson of Australia.

Leah Nugent, another Jamaican at the meet, will compete in the women’s 400m hurdles with Kimberley Williams in the women’s triple jump and Demish Gaye to face world record holder Wayde van Niekerk in the men’s 400m event.
