Usain Bolt to play soccer for charity

by June 14th, 2021

Jamaican sprint legend Usain Bolt will once again flex his football muscles for a global cause, through the United Nations Children’s Fund Soccer Aid 2021 charity match.

Bolt will join ‘Team World’ which also features retired footballer and World Cup winner, Brazilian Roberto Carlos, and France’s Patrice Evra.

Soccer Aid is an annual charity football match, which sees a team of former pro-footballers and celebrities from England, take on a similar team from the rest of the world, in order to raise money to support children across the globe.

“Bolt is back! I will be lining up-top once again,” shared Usain Bolt on his social media pages on Friday.

Bolt first played Soccer Aid in 2018 where he served as captain of the World team, he scored a goal at the 2019 game to lead his team to victory and returned as captain at last year’s virtual tournament.

The aim of the charity match to be played in Manchester, UK this September, is to raise sufficient funds to deliver over two billion COVID-19 vaccines to teachers and frontline healthcare and social workers around the world.
