by August 18th, 2021

The National Water Commission, NWC, says it is working to restore water supply to a number of communities, however its systems continue to be impacted by power outages and turbidity.

Communications Manager at the NWC Andrew Canon notes that assessments of the impact of Tropical Storm Grace on the company’s water infrastructure, have been done.

He says while timelines for service resumption are not yet available for most areas, restoration work is underway across the island.

He notes that the majority of customers without service is as a result of power supply issues, but turbidity is impacting a few systems.

He added that assessments are still being done, while urging customers to be patient as the NWC works with the power company to restore access to customers.

Meantime, the Jamaica Public Service, JPS, says approximately 100,000 of its customers across the island are still without electricity.

Director of Corporate Communications at the JPS, Winsome Callum notes that the restoration teams have been working to get customers back online.
