Uzi machine gun seized in Westmoreland

The security forces seized an Uzi sub-machine gun, during operations in Westmoreland, aimed at curtailing gang activities in the parish.

Two women and seven men were detained, during the operation carried out in Solas, Frome.

Two magazines and twenty-four 9 mm cartridges were also seized in the operation about 6:00 am.

In the meantime, two wanted men and four persons of interest have been taken into custody so far, following the flare-up of gang related violence in Grange Hill, last week.

Seven people were killed and eight shot and wounded during the attack, last Tuesday.

They men are all from addresses in Westmoreland.

The police are renewing their appeal for the other wanted persons and the person of interest, whose names were published to hand in themselves immediately.

Those wanted are Isaiah Perry otherwise called ‘Matthew Perry’ or ‘Cat’ who is wanted for shooting; 23-year-old Richard Hamilton otherwise called ‘Brutus’ or ‘Mad Move’, who is wanted for murder and other related incidents in the division; and 49-year-old Burton Shearer, otherwise called ‘Bap’, who is wanted for murder.

Meantime, the person of interest still being sought is Martin Humes, otherwise called ‘Kartel’ of Kings Valley District, Grange Hill.

Police say these wanted men are considered armed and dangerous and as such their whereabouts must be reported to the police immediately through crime stop at 311, or 811.

Citizens are also being reminded that it is not only an offence harbour criminals and provide a safe haven for them, and it also places the lives of family and friends at increased risks of attack.
